Can I See Some ID?

I understand that underage drinking is a major problem in this country. I also understand that the repercussions for a bar that serves an underage person are very severe (at least in PA). Because I am not a moron, and I understand these things, I am fully in support of bars doing their due diligence to prevent underage drinking. Most commonly, this involves the inspection of proof-of-age identification. I am also fully in support of this method, as I am closer to 30 than I am to 20.
My only problem with being carded, however, is that there is no uniformity. Some bars just glance to see that you have ANY ID. Some bars have an eagle-eyed bouncer who inspects it thoroughly. Some bars even have the magic yellow box that reads your birthdate off of the magnetic strip. And some bars, high class and high tech establishments that they are, still use the ID book. Chances are you have seen one of these at least once. They have a picture of both sides of a valid ID from every state. They also have a few hints and tips for "secret" features of the ID, as well as common counterfeiter mistakes.
Last night, as I was buying some beer, I was carded by a little vixen in a Naughty Santa outfit. She must have never seen an out of state license before, because she ran for that book like she had burnt her ass sliding down the chimney. She then proceeded to ogle my ID for five minutes. She checked it against the book. She flipped it over. Again, the book. Then she held it under a blacklight (my license has a neat little picture of the State flag when exposed to UV light). Then she went back to the book.
Finally, after all this was done, she was satisfied that my ID was in fact legitimate. I purchased my six-pack and left. That's right. All of this for a lousy six pack. I wasn't planning on getting soused at her bar. I wasn't planning on buying a keg. Six measly beers. I think I drank them in less time than it took her to verify that I was old enough to do so.
